Turkish History
The history of Anatolia, the Turkish homeland is simply incredible. The world's oldest city was discovered, here, at Catal Hoyuk in 7500 BC. The Hittite Empire, little known in the west, rivalled that of ancient Egypt, and left behind captivating works of art.
Ataturk is the national hero of bodrum. He founded the modern Turkish Republic out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. One of the best books written about Ataturk from a foreigner's point of view is the book titled The Rebirth of a Nation by Lord Kinross.
Turkish Bazaar
The Kapali Carsi or Covered Bazaar or Grand Bazaar is one of Istanbul's most intriguing sights. This labyrinth of vaulted roofed winding streets and domed buildings evolved over a period of 250 years Today souvenirs and gifts seem to dominate, with rugs and jewellery a close second.
Coffee in Turkey
The most outstanding feature of Turkish coffee is not the way it is grinded nor the way it is boiled. Turkish coffee is unique because it allows your fortune to be told by looking at the cup. Coffee cup reading is a widespread and popular fortune telling method, which speaks of both the past and the future.
Turkish baths
In Central Asia, in their homeland, the Turks used to have steam baths, which they called manchu. Bringing their Asian tradition with them, they merged it with the Roman bath culture they found in Anatolia, and a new synthesis was born, the Turkish bath. With their traditions, associated beliefs, and philosophy of life, baths became an institution, which spread all the way from Anatolia to Hungary in Europe
